Every day is a day for us to celebrate dance, but July 29th is officially National Dance Day! Thanks to Nigel Lythgoe (co-creator of "So You Think You can Dance" and co-founder of the Dizzy Feet Foundation) National Dance Day was created in 2010 and is observed on the last Saturday of July each year.  This July 29th marks is the 8th National Dance Day! Here's how you can celebrate in style along with friends and family:

move, shake, drop!  Spread the word about dance:

National Dance Day was created to empower Americans to move their bodies and incorporate more dance and movement into their lives. The idea is to spread the joy, health and wellness benefits of dance across the country!  So share your favorite dance moves (they can be emotional, silly, technically sound or just for fun) on your social media accounts and tag #nationaldanceday and #nationaldanceday2017

Celebrate in some of our favorite styles: 'Go To' Legging & Slingshot Top!

Participate in the Dizzy Feet Foundation Video Challenge:

If you want to get even more involved, The Dizzy Feet Foundation hosts a national contest to support and encourage participation in National Dance Day.  To enter, follow this link to learn the official National Dance Day choreography from Jade Chynoweth and Carlito Olivero from the new YouTube Red original series Step Up: High Water.  You can modify the routine based on your skill level, or to accommodate all different body types and abilities.  The idea is that you're moving and inspiring others through dance!

"Watch and learn the official National Dance Day routine and take a video of yourself performing the routine in your own style. Feel free to get creative with it or keep it simple with the original steps! You can get together with your friends, dance classmates in your neighborhood studio, gather your family in your living room, or perform a solo in a nearby park. Whatever way you chose, just get dancing!" - Dizzy Feet Foundation

Once your video is ready, upload it to YouTube and be sure to tag #nationaldanceday2017 and #stepupanddance ! The last "step" is to submit the form on the Dizzy Feet Foundation National Dance Day Page.

Get out there and dance:

The best way to celebrate National Dance Day is simply to share your love of dance!  So take it to the streets and start a flash mob, or grab a friend and dance around your bedroom.  No matter how you choose to celebrate, today is a day to move, shake, sweat and love every second of it!

Happy National Dance Day from all of us at Jo+Jax!
