A post performance "glow" is something we love, but why not have that lovely glow every day! Taking care of your skin with a solid skin care routine is a good idea no matter what your age. It's especially important for us as dancers to shine our best face forward. Read below to follow our skin care guide and read our recommendations for the most optimal, natural skincare products.
Step 1: Remove Makeup
Use a makeup remover wipe, cloth or solution to remove any excess makeup (particularly mascara & lipstick.) Coconut oil is also a natural alternative that functions like a makeup remover once applied to your face. It's especially great for removing lipstick. It's also a smart idea to keep makeup remover wipes in your dance bag to take off makeup before class.

Step 2: Wash
Choosing a soothing, delicate face wash is the best bet to keeping your skin in good shape. You want to think about using a face wash that has as few ingredients as possible, free of any unnatural fragrances, etc. When washing your face, a dime sized amount is all you need. Gently smooth all over face and rub in circular motions- It's important to be delicate and careful. Rinse with warm water, as water that is too hot will dry and irritate skin.

Step 3: Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps to release/ clear dead skin and opens up pores to absorb products better. Exfoliating once or twice a week encourages healthy skin regeneration. It also makes your skin more sensitive to the elements, so make sure to use a sunscreen the morning after. Remember to use a gentle touch when applying exfoliant and to use a product that is all natural and organic to avoid irritating your beautiful skin!

Step 4: Serum
A serum is something that will help repair your skin at a cellular level, aid in healthy regeneration and protect your skin from things such as pollution, light and damage. Serums can be pricey because many have highly concentrated nutrients. A little goes a long way!

Step 5: Moisturize
If your skin still needs a little more love and hydration after the serum, finish your regiment with a natural moisturizer. Find a moisturizer with clean ingredients that is appropriate for your skin type. Be sure to get the area under your eyes and your neck!

A few other skin care tips:
Wear a daily sunscreen
Protect your skin from increasingly harmful sun rays by wearing a sunscreen or moisturizer with sunscreen on the daily. Remember to wear a hat or take an umbrella on days where you will be outside for extended periods of time to keep you skin from aging prematurely from too much sun.

Wear mineral/organic makeups:
These makeups are way better for your skin than the nasty chemical brands that include mica, glass and other harmful fragrances and chemicals.
OR
Go without makeup
If you are able to go without makeup a few days a week, this gives your skin a break and allows it to breathe. Remember to take off your makeup before dance class unless it is necessary for your performance, as sweating in your makeup can increase the chance of breakouts.
