During that combo. At that show.  On stage at comp.

There are plenty of moments in our careers we come across dancers that are oh so captivating in their presence and ability.  Being a performer is about telling a story and creating art through our bodies.  We are certainly vessels of human expression.  Have you ever thought about what makes a performer truly sparkle and stand out among the rest?

This isn’t a post asking you to compare yourself to another dancer.  Instead, the intention is for you to dissect what qualities stand out to you so you are able to own them as an artist and performer.

That being said, the secret to being that mesmerizing dancer is simple: confidence.

While it may seem like a stretch to be able to just “turn on” confidence to make that everlasting impression, instead, think about what thsoe singular moments are that create an air of confidence in the room.

A friendly, welcoming demeanor.  Keeping your shoulders back and chin up.  Standing proudly in the front line.  Making mistakes boldly but not letting it throw you off your game. Allowing yourself to let go and tell a story through movement.

The best part?  All of these things have nothing to do with technique but everything to do with being an honest, friendly human.  This is not to discount the fact spectacular technique is admirable and impressive – but it is to say if there is no connection to your audience, then what is the point of the art itself?

So don’t be afraid to make these mindset shifts everyday and be the dancer you can’t take your eyes off of.  It is your choice to recognize being a work in progress as an artist is one thing, but also celebrating your art and realizing you are enough will bring your current wholeness to the forefront.

And remember -- confidence is in fact attractive and eye catching, but be mindful of toeing the line of arrogance.  Arrogance is confidence without kindness and a humble attitude!
