When it comes to partnering, it is often assumed that your male counterpart should do all the work to make you look like a prima.  However, it's important to think of a partner dance like a relationship.  Relationships require a lot of team work, open communication and trust in order to be successful.

Here are some great tips and tactics for a perfect partnership that will shine on stage!

Put safety above all else. If you are trying a new move and don't feel 100% ready or safe, make sure you let your teacher or partner know.  Don't throw yourself into something you're not ready to do.  There is no pressure!

Create your own bonding activity dates.  When you are friends with your partner and share experiences, you begin to feel more comfortable communicating in the studio.  See a movie, grab a smoothie or even take a dance class together.  Create a meaningful friendship and find a natural chemistry.

Take a deep breath to relieve frustration.  No partnership is perfect.  You won't get everything your first time.  If your partner is struggling to find the sweet spot to put you on your standing leg, give them a break!  Take a deep breath and count to three before speaking to avoid lashing out and creating unnecessary tension in the room.

Provide constructive feedback, but keep it polite. Problem solving techniques definitely come in handy during a duet. If you two are struggling to nail a count or position, give your partner some feedback as to why this may be happening.

Keep open communication.  Your partner isn't a mind reader.  Keep communication flowing!

Thank your partner at the end of rehearsal. A rehearsal process could be anything from incredibly smooth to painstakingly long. No matter the process, make sure you arrive at the same outcome.  Thank your partner for a hard day's work.  Remind them that even if today wasn't successful, tomorrow will be a chance to get it right.

Remember: you are a team.  Patience, trust and perseverance are all qualities that make up a strong dynamic duo.  You're in this together!  Stay positive and keep your eye on the platinum.

Send your partner some love! Tag them below.
