World of Dance Season three kicked off full speed and has been going strong ever since! Season Three has turned out to be the most competitive yet, with an elevated qualifying score and the bar being raised in talent, creativity and passion from show participants. World of Dance is an opportunity for many of the best dancers in the world to perform under an international spotlight, receive feedback and critique from celebrity judges and compete for the chance to win one million dollars!
This season is especially exciting for us at Jo+Jax, as we’re proud to have JJ brand ambassador Kayla Mak competing on WOD!
Kayla impressed the judging panel in her first televised performance on World of Dance, Season 3, Episode 2. Dancing to Daya's "Back to me," she especially stunned Derek Hough who recognized her technique and individuality within her unique contemporary ballet performance. "It just felt fresh," he said. "It was so now with still honoring ballet and the traditional style." JLo refers to her as "a mythical creature, almost like a fairy or a nymph." Kayla went on to qualify for the duels with her outstanding performance.
Her movement truly is lovely and appearing effortless, although we know it is anything but! Miss Mak took a few moments out of her busy rehearsal schedule to answer a few questions for us about her experience on World of Dance so far. Read below to find out more:
JJ: Kayla, What is it like being in front of the celebrity judges?
Kayla: It was crazy being in front of celebrity judges! Seeing them on television to real life was mind blowing. They are so kind and nurturing and I couldn't ask for better judges.
JJ: What is the most important thing that have you learned so far during this experience?
Kayla: I have learned so much! Being able to really connect my movements to the music and channel my inner emotions throughout the piece. World Of Dance has pushed my boundaries and really took me out of my comfort zone :)
JJ: How do you feel your wardrobe and appearance impact and effect your dancing?
Kayla: I think your wardrobe can really effect your dancing. When you feel good in what you are wearing, you feel more confident and happy in your dancing and in yourself :)
Tune into NBC to follow Kayla and the rest of the competitors along on their World of Dance journey, and check back on the JJ Blog next month to see our favorite performances thus far in WOD Season Three!
Happy Dancing!
